The purpose of this anticipated PMI Mbu (Mosquitoes) project is to identify and implement proven, evidence-based vector control approaches in Tanzania, in support of reducing the overall malaria burden and moving Tanzania closer to Malaria elimination. The anticipated project has four primary components: (1) Insecticides treated mosquito net ( ITN) distribution; (2) Social and behavior change (SBC) for ITN use and other vector control interventions; (3) Using data, including those generated from entomological surveillance, to provide the Government of Tanzania and malaria partners with expert technical guidance, and as appropriate, develop plans for implementation of modified or new vector control approaches in Tanzania; and (4) Capacity strengthening of government institutions ( Mainland Medical Store Department (MSD) and Zanzibar Central Medical Store (CMS).

Your contribution

  • The Malaria Entomology and Vector Control Officer (MEVCO) will be responsible with component 3 of the project, providing high level technical expertise to NMCP, PORALG and ZAMEP on all aspects of Entomology Monitoring and Vector Control Interventions.

Skill & Experience

  • Master’s degree in public health, vector biology, entomology, or related field.
  • At minimum five years or more management experience in the design, implementation, and management of vector control programs of similar size, complexity, and setting.
  • Strong database, excel, and other computer data management skills preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of data collection protocols for quality data collection and verification.
  • Exceptionally ability to analyze source of data to identify trends and provide recommendations on project implementation.
  • Demonstrated track record in disseminating entomological information/programmatic and research outcomes and findings at national and international conferences, as well as in the published peer-reviewed literature.
  • Fluency in Swahili; English written and Oral communication skills.
